Quakes Win in Extras to Close Season

Dixon rips two-run double in tenth to give Quakes victory
September 1, 2014

Lake Elsinore, CA - Brandon Dixon ripped a two-run tenth-inning double, giving the Quakes a victory in their final regular-season game of the year, as Rancho downed Lake Elsinore on Monday afternoon, winning by a 4-2 score at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore.

The win sends the Quakes to the off-season with a final record of 65-75, 33-37 in the second half of the year. Rancho's win also clinched the second half South Division crown for Inland Empire, as the 66ers will advance to the post-season as the #2 seed in the South, while Lake Elsinore will go as the #3 seed.

Tied at 2-2 in the tenth, Storm reliever Genison Reyes (1-2) allowed back-to-back hitters to reach, as James Baldwin singled and Dillon Moyer walked. After a sacrifice bunt by Adam Law, Dixon followed with a two-run double over the head of left-fielder Jeremy Baltz, chasing home both Baldwin and Moyer for a 4-2 lead.

Dan Tillman, taking over after Luis Meza (3-2) worked two scoreless relief innings, allowed a one-out single to Luis Domoromo, but coaxed pinch-hitter Dane Phillips into a season-ending 4-6-3 double-play. The save for Tillman was his second of the year.

Rancho took the early lead in the first, as Pratt Maynard doubled home a run off Storm starter Rafael DePaula for a 1-0 lead. DePaula would later uncork a wild pitch, as Erisbel Arruebarrena would score to make it 2-0.

Quakes' starter Geoff Brown was solid on Monday afternoon, giving up just an unearned run over five innings in the no-decision.

The Storm tied the game in the sixth, as Jeremy Baltz slammed his third homer of the series and 12th of the year, evening the game at 2-2.

The Quakes only logged six hits in Monday's finale, with Baldwin leading the way with two knocks, a pair of stolen bases and a run scored.
