Ramirez Plates Two in Quakes' Win

April 27, 2013

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in his first of two scheduled rehab starts with the Quakes, as Rancho downed the visiting Lake Elsinore Storm, 8-3, at LoanMart Field on Saturday night.

Ramirez led off the game with a single to center and followed that with an RBI groundout, a sharp groundout to second base and a sacrifice fly to center before he was replaced by Darnell Sweeney in the seventh inning.

Angelo Songco broke his power slump at the plate, pounding a two-run jack off the scoreboard beyond the wall in right field to stretch the Quakes' lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning.

With one out in the second inning, the Quakes put together their first rally of the game. Ryan Mount and Scott Schebler drew consecutive walks and catcher Pratt Maynard followed with an RBI double to left field, pulling the Quakes even with Lake Elsinore, 1-1.

Center fielder Rob Garvey laced a run-scoring single to left and a Ramirez RBI groundout made it 3-1 against Storm starter Colin Rea (0-2).

Back-to-back doubles from Lee Orr and Yeison Asencio gave Lake Elsinore a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Quakes starter Gustavo Gomez struck out Storm catcher Austin Hedges one batter later and was then pulled from the game in favor of Juan Noriega due to an undisclosed injury.

Noriega pitched his way out of trouble in the third inning after allowing runners to reach first and second with no outs. The Monclova, Mexico native got the next three batters to strike out and ground into two force outs.

Noriega (1-0) earned his first win of the season, holding the Storm scoreless in his 2 2/3 innings on the hill. He allowed just one hit and struck out one. He scored two runs and drew a pair of runs. The Quakes as a whole drew eight free passes against Lake Elsinore pitching.

Scott Schebler continued to smoke the ball, racing around the bases for his California League-best sixth triple of the season in the third inning.

Right fielder Jonathan Garcia went 2-for-4 with a run scored as he continues to produce in the middle of the Quakes' lineup. Garcia has recorded a hit in eight of his last 10 games and has boosted his batting average to .297 along the way.

The Quakes' second win in as many nights brings their record to 11-12 and they will go for their first series sweep of the season tomorrow behind the right arm of Garrett Gould (0-2, 11.74 ERA). Lake Elsinore will throw right-hander Matt Jackson (0-0, 6.23 ERA) at the Quakes.
