Rancho Moves to .500 With Win Over 66ers

Proscia knocks in the go-ahead run on his birthday
June 27, 2014

San Bernardino, CA - On his 24th birthday, Steven Proscia had the game-winning RBI in a 2-1 win for the Quakes over Inland Empire. Proscia's seventh-inning double scored Rob Garvey and gave Rancho a seventh win in eight games since the All-Star Break.

Rancho Cucamonga (7-1, 39-39) trailed for most of the game after Wade Hinkle's first-inning RBI double gave Inland Empire (1-7, 26-52) a 1-0 lead. The Quakes had runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings, but failed to score.

The Quakes finally broke through in the sixth off of reliever Jake Boyd (1-2, 5.22). With Adam Law aboard, Corey Seager tied the game with an RBI double down the right-field line. The double was Seager's league-leading 29th of the season.

The game was still tied at one in the top of the seventh when Rob Garvey singled to right field with one out. Steven Proscia, who was celebrating his birthday, pulled a ground ball down the third-base line that scored Garvey from first to give the Quakes a 2-1 lead.

The lead would hold up for the Quakes despite some ninth-inning drama. With two outs and the tying run on first base, the 66ers sent Sherman Johnson in to pinch run for catcher Zach Wright. With Dennis Raben at the plate, Johnson successfully stole second to move the tying run into scoring position. With the count 2-0, Johnson broke for third but was thrown out by Kyle Farmer to end the game.

Chris Anderson (5-5, 4.82) gave up just one run on four hits over six innings to earn his fifth win of the season for Rancho. Rob Rogers gave up a hit in the ninth, but earned his third save of the season and his second in as many nights.

With the win, Rancho moved to 7-1 in the Second Half and 39-39 overall. It is the first time Rancho has been at the .500 mark since April 8 when the team was 3-3.

The Quakes can move above .500 on Friday in the second game of this series in San Bernardino. Lefty Julio Urias (1-1, 3.35), who has been sensational against the 66ers this season, gets the ball for Rancho against Mark Sappington (1-5, 7.67). First pitch is at 7:05 pm and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports AM 1350 with the LoanMart Pregame Report at 6:50 pm.
