"Legger" Diamond Dinner Comes to PNC Field

SWB Baseball Legend Greg Legg Fundraiser Moves to Mohegan Sun Club
February 14, 2014

Moosic, Pa. - With the newly reconstructed PNC Field as a backdrop, the Third Annual "Legger" Diamond Dinner hosted by SWB baseball legend Greg Legg will take place on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the stadium's Mohegan Sun Club. The fundraising dinner provides a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving NEPA high school athlete.

Legg, a fan-favorite from his days as a Red Baron (1989-94), will manage the Low-A Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies) this season. The scholarship was created due to Legg's desire to provide local student-athletes assistance with the furthering of their education.

The fund was established through the Scranton Area Foundation in August of 2010 to support a scholarship for a student from Lackawanna or Luzerne Counties who has played high school baseball and will be enrolled in an institution of higher learning after high school graduation. The student must have been a member of the Lackawanna County All-Regional Baseball Team as selected by the Scranton Times-Tribune, or a member of the Luzerne County Baseball All-Star Team as selected by the Wilkes-Barre Citizens Voice and Hazleton Standard Speaker.

A buffet dinner will be served, and a silent auction will take place along with drawings for a number of door prizes. Tickets for the event are $40 and may be purchased through the PNC ticket office by calling 570-969-BALL (2255), by calling Frank McGuire at 570-689-7158 in the Lackawanna County area, or by calling Diane Devans at 570-899-1181 in the Luzerne County area.

The RailRiders' 2014 season begins on Thursday, April 3 when the club kicks off a seven-game road trip at Syracuse against the Chiefs (Washington Nationals). The home slate commences a week later on Thursday, April 10 when the Chiefs visit PNC Field for a four-game series and homestand.
