Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) captured their fifth straight win at PNC Field on Tuesday night thanks to a big evening from Mike Ford . The first baseman drove in four as the RailRiders (20-16) defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 7-2. The PawSox (15-19) have lost six straight.
Tyler Webb (3-0) earned the victory by holding Pawtucket to a run over 3.1 innings in relief. The southpaw fanned six. Henry Owens (3-2) shouldered the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in his 4.2 frames of work. He issued a season-worst seven walks.
Ford started his night with a walk in the first, but belted his first Triple-A homer in the third. The two-run shot to right field gave the RailRiders a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish. Ford made it 4-1 on a two-run double in the fourth. He reached a fourth time after getting plunked in the sixth.
Mason Williams recorded two hits and stole two bags. Mark Payton provided the finishing touches with a two-run homer to left in the seventh, his second of the year. Rob Refsnyder extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a pair of hits and reached four times total.
The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders continue their series with the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, from PNC Field. Right-hander Luis Cessa (2-3, 3.90) gets the ball for SWB against right-hander Shawn Haviland (2-3, 3.11).
