Misericordia Repeats as NCAA Regional Host at PNC Field

2014 NCAA Division III Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional Returns to Moosic
January 3, 2014

Moosic, Pa. - PNC Field's status as a fixture in the NEPA community continues to grow. For the second time in as many years, Misericordia University will host the NCAA Division III Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at PNC Field in Moosic. In conjunction with the ballpark's usual tenants, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees), Ballpark Digest's 2013 Ballpark of the Year will host the event from May 14-18.

The winner of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament will advance to the Division III College World Series, and will earn the berth in style. The RailRiders' $43 million home drew rave reviews throughout its inaugural 2013 season, including a successful run of the same tournament last May.

"We're thrilled to once again be hosting the NCAA baseball championships," said David Martin, Misericordia director of athletics. "We're excited to be partnering with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and to be able to play at such a spectacular venue."

Misericordia is the three-time defending Freedom Conference champion and has advanced to the NCAA Division III Regional championships each of the last three years. The Cougars finished third in last year's regional tournament and reached the winner's bracket final in 2011. Under head coach Pete Egbert, MU has gone 105-37 (.739) over the last three seasons including a 39-11 (.780) mark a year ago.

"One of our top priorities is making PNC Field the community's ballpark," said RailRiders president and general manager Rob Crain. "Hosting the 2013 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament was one of the many highlights last season. We are enthused to host the event again and partner with Misericordia University in 2014. We look forward to another memorable tournament."

The RailRiders' 2014 season begins on Thursday, April 3 when the club kicks off a seven-game road trip at Syracuse against the Chiefs (Washington Nationals). The home slate commences a week later on Thursday, April 10 when the Chiefs visit PNC Field for a four-game series and homestand.
