Buffalo, N.Y. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) returned from the All-Star Break with a 6-1 drubbing of the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) at Coca-Cola Field on Thursday night. The RailRiders (56-34) have won 23 of their last 33 while the Bisons (38-53) have lost 30 of their last 37 including nine straight versus SWB.
Sac flies by Mark Payton and Jonathan Diaz plated runs in the second inning. Donovan Solano 's RBI double and Jake Cave 's run-scoring fielder's choice pushed the advantage to 4-0 in the third. Miguel Andujar homered, his third at Triple-A, to make it 5-0 in the fifth. Cave rounded out SWB's scoring with a two-out RBI single in the ninth.
SWB starter Luis Cessa (4-6) fired his fourth straight quality start at Triple-A to get the win. He tossed six scoreless innings giving up six hits (five singles), walking one and whiffing six. Brady Lail hurled the last three innings for his second career save, both at Buffalo's expense. He gave up a solo homer to Jon Berti in the seventh, but allowed no other baserunners and retired the final seven he faced in succession. Buffalo starter T.J. House (6-9) gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks over six innings to take the loss.
The RailRiders return home on Monday, July 17 to open a seven-game homestand. Mason Williams went 3-for-5 with his second triple and scored a run.
Donovan Solano went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. His average has improved by over 100 points from the close of May (.164-.279).
Miguel Andujar finished 2-for-4 with the solo homer and two runs scored.
Jake Cave ended the night 1-for-4 with two RBIs, one walk and one run scored. Cave has 16 RBIs in 24 Triple-A games.
Over his last four Triple-A outings, Luis Cessa has tossed 26 innings, allowing 19 hits, five runs and four walks against 23 strikeouts (1.73 ERA). Including his most recent stint in the bigs, Cessa has not allowed a run over his last three outings, a span of 12.2 scoreless innings.
