DeLuca Smashes Two Homers in Rancho Win

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Jonny DeLuca slammed a pair of home runs and the Rancho offense scored double-digits for the third straight game, as the Quakes defeated Lake Elsinore on Thursday night by a final of 11-4.

DeLuca, who had three total hits on the night took over the team lead in homers with numbers 10 and 11, as Rancho blasted three in the contest and put 14 hits on the board.

The Storm tallied a pair of two-out runs in the first off of starter Gavin Stone, but Rancho immediately answered in the bottom of the inning. Sam McWilliams doubled home Jake Vogel to put the Quakes on the board at 2-1. DeLuca blasted his first of two bombs to cap the inning, giving the Quakes the lead for good at 3-2.

Wladimir Chalo hit his second home run in his last three games, helping Rancho build a 4-2 lead in the second.

Aldrich de Jongh, who had two hits on the night, had a two-run single in the third, giving Rancho a 6-2 advantage against Storm starter Dwayne Matos (0-2).

DeLuca tacked on a pair in the fifth, as he crushed a two-run homer to make it 8-2 in the fifth.

Rancho capped their scoring with one in the sixth and two more in the seventh, leading by as many as nine at one point.

The Storm got their final runs in the eighth, as Joshua Mears connected for a two-run homer to round out the scoring on Thursday.

Rancho reliever Nelfri Contreras (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless frames in relief of starter Gavin Stone, who allowed two runs over four innings.

Rancho (29-27) has now won four straight games and three straight to open the series against the Storm. On Friday, Rancho will go with Robbie Peto (0-2), while the Storm counter with Levi Thomas (1-2) at 6:30pm.
