Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes found themselves on the right side of a pitchers duel Saturday night, holding off the JetHawks for a 3-1 win in front of a sellout crowd at LoanMart Field.
A two-run home run for the Quakes was the difference maker in the contest as both starting pitcher struck out eleven on the mound.
Max Gamboa toed the rubber and allowed the only run of the night on an RBI-groundout from Carlos Herrera in the second. Gamboa closed out the frame with a pop out and would go on to retire ten in a row before Manny Melendez singled in the sixth.
Cristian Santana barreled a two-run home run off of Matt Dennis in the third, his 20th on the season to give Rancho the 2-1 lead. Dennis (7-12) did not allow another run over the rest of his outing and went on to strikeout out a season-high eleven in the loss.
Lancaster nearly tied the game in the sixth, putting a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs. Gamboa locked in and struck out three in a row to exit the inning with the one-run lead intact. Eleven strikeouts marked a career-high for Gamboa (2-1), who allowed just four hits and was lifted after six innings.
Lancaster's bullpen was erratic in the seventh, walking three in a row including Cody Thomas with the bases loaded to make it 3-1.
Moseley allowed just two hits out of the bullpen and held the lead over a scoreless seventh and eight. Sven Schueller entered in the ninth and retired Lancaster in order to secure his first save on the season.
The win jumps Rancho back up to a five-game lead over Lancaster in the south division.
The Quakes will look for the series sweep on Sunday with LHP Leo Crawford (4-0) on the mound opposite Lancaster's Brandon Gold (9-6). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
