JetHawks Force Decisive Game Three

Quakes get blown out in Lancaster
September 9, 2016

Lancaster, CA-- With their backs against the wall, the Lancaster JetHawks literally came out swinging on Thursday night, hammering the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes by a final of 17-11 at The Hangar in Lancaster.

Needing a win at home to force a game three in the best-of-three series, the JetHawks saw their first eight consecutive hitters all reach safely against Quakes' starter Michael Boyle, scoring eight times in the first to take a commanding lead.

A Rancho Cucamonga five-run fifth put the Quakes back in the game at 11-8, but the JetHawks scored six more over the final three innings against reliever Chris Anderson to complete the romp and force a decisive game three on Friday night.

Michael Ahmed ripped a two-run homer in the first inning, giving the Quakes a 2-0 advantage and sending Boyle to the mound with the lead.

That lead was short-lived though, as the JetHawks recorded eight straight hits to open the first, taking an 8-2 advantage. Trent Woodward and Christian Correa each homered in the eight run first, two of Lancaster's seven home runs on the night. The two teams combined to hit 11 home runs, tying a Cal League record.

Noah Perio, who swatted a pair of home runs on the night and finished 3-for-5 overall, went deep in the third, making it 8-3.

Boyle allowed a Marc Wik homer in the third and a two-run blast by Aaron Mizell in the fourth, as the JetHawks built an 11-3 lead against Boyle (0-1).

Johan Mieses capped a five-run fifth against Lancaster starter Jose Hernandez (1-0), as he blasted a three-run homer, making it 11-8.

The JetHawks recaptured the momentum against Anderson though, scoring three in the sixth, two in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Perio smacked a three-run homer to right in the ninth, capping the scoring against Lancaster reliever Juan Santos at 17-11.

Friday's series-finale will be the final game of the season for one of these two clubs, as the Quakes and JetHawks will meet in a decisive game three. Adam Bray will make his first post-season appearance, while Lancaster will counter with Akeem Bostick. Game time from Lancaster is 6:35pm and the game can be heard live with Mike Lindskog and Max Gun on FOX Sports 1350 or through the iHeartRadio app, or the TuneIn Radio app.
