Lancaster, CA - The Quakes were swept for just the second time this year, as the Lancaster JetHawks dropped Rancho on Sunday evening, 10-9.
The JetHawks' three-game sweep of the Quakes at The Hangar gives Rancho their longest skid since they dropped three in a row in mid-May. The club's only other sweep was suffered in Stockton, as they dropped a three-game set to the Ports in early-April.
A Manny Melendez RBI single off of Michael Boyle (1-1) was the difference, as his eighth-inning hit broke a 9-9 tie and put the JetHawks ahead to stay for good.
In the top of the ninth, the Quakes went in order against Ben Bowden (3-2), who retired all four hitters he faced on Sunday night.
Lancaster led four different times, but the Quakes rallied on three different occasions.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, Rancho jumped all over Lancaster starter Matt Dennis. Omar Estevez doubled home Cody Thomas to tie the game at 1-1. Jeren Kendall followed with an RBI single, scoring Estevez to give Rancho a 2-1 lead. Three batters later, Brandon Montgomery homered to right field, his first in a Rancho uniform this season, as the Quakes built a 5-1 lead. Rancho added one final run when Cristian Santana doubled home Connor Wong to make it 6-1.
The JetHawks wasted little time rebounding against starter Max Gamboa, as Carlos Herrera tripled home a pair, then scored on a sac fly to make it 6-4 in the third. They evened the game in the fourth with a two-run blast by Bret Boswell, making it 6-6.
Connor Wong led Rancho's 13-hit attack, as he finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Quakes (67-47, 32-12) will head to San Jose, opening a three-game set against the Giants on Monday at 7:00pm. Lefty Leo Crawford (4-0) will throw for Rancho, while the Giants will lean on Carlos Sano (3-3) in the series-opener.
On Friday, August 10th, the Quakes open up a six-game home stand against the JetHawks. Friday will be Allstar Kia Walker Buehler Bobblhead Giveaway, as 1,500 fans will take home a Buehler Bobblehead. Game time is 7:05pm and gates will open at 6:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
