Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Brandon Lewis smashed a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth and the Quakes rallied for a second straight day against the Inland Empire 66ers, taking a 6-3 decision at LoanMart Field on Sunday afternoon.

Tied at 3-3, Sam McWilliams led off the eighth with a single, setting up Lewis for the go-ahead blast, his fourth of the year to make it 5-3. Diego Cartaya followed with a 440-foot homer for good measure, rounding out the score at 6-3 against Inland reliever Justin Courtney (1-1).

The 440-foot home run was the second-longest hit ball for Cartaya on the day, as he destroyed a sixth-inning pitch to straight-away center field to the tune of 461 feet. The two-homer day for Cartaya is his first of the year, giving him a staggering five home runs in just eight games played.

The Quakes got some strong pitching in relief of starter Kendall Williams on Sunday, as Braydon Fisher and Jose Hernandez combined to go five innings of scoreless baseball.

Fisher retired the first ten hitters he faced, before Hernandez (2-0) got out of an eighth-inning jam and was credited with the win.

The Quakes take four of six in the series with the win, giving them four of six in three straight series overall. Rancho (16-13) has a three-game lead over Inland Empire going into Monday’s off-day and is now three over the .500 mark for the first time this year.

On Tuesday, the Quakes travel to Lake Elsinore, opening a six-game set down The Diamond. Right-hander Carlos Duran (0-0) is set to handle the opener, while the Storm are scheduled to throw righty Nick Thwaits (0-3) with first pitch slated for 5:35pm on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, June 15th, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for a six-game series against the Visalia Rawhide. Tickets are available for all Quakes home games at rcquakes.com.
