Lake Elsinore, CA – After several blow-outs this week, Sunday’s series-finale in Lake Elsinore finally saw a good game come down to the wire, but Rancho Cucamonga fell a run shy in their bid to split the six-game set, as the Storm held on for an 8-7 win over the Quakes at The Diamond.

Rancho loaded the bases in the ninth against Storm reliever Alan Mundo, but with one out failed to score the equalizer. Griffin Lockwood-Powell was called out on a controversial third strike and Luis Rodriguez ended the game by going down swinging, giving Lake Elsinore four of six in the series.

The Quakes got two home runs on Sunday, as Luis Diaz blasted his ninth of the year in the first inning and Yunior Garcia connected for a solo-shot in the second, helping Rancho build an early lead against Storm starter and eventual winner Jesus Gonzalez (4-2).

Quakes’ starter Jerming Rosario struggled for a second time in the series though, as he got chased in the third, after giving up two in the first and five more in the third, putting the Storm ahead to stay at 7-3.

Rancho rebounded to pull to within one, but ultimately left the bases loaded in the ninth inning, leaving a total of nine men stranded on Sunday.

The Quakes (1-2, 37-32) take Monday off, then open a six-game home stand against Visalia on Tuesday night at 6:30pm. River Ryan (1-1) will throw for Rancho, while Diomede Sierra will open the series for the Rawhide.

Tuesday will be a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, where fans can pledge to recycle ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans for a free Club Seat Ticket. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
