Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Despite only collecting ten base hits, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes destroyed the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night, winning 21-5 in front of a sold-out LoanMart Field crowd of more than 4,700 fans.

Diego Cartaya, homered twice, had four hits and reached base six times, while Alex De Jesus had three hits and slugged a 468-foot home run to lead the Rancho offense.

The story however, was the Visalia pitching staff and their attempt to tie a 70-year-old California League record. The Rawhide staff walked 18 total batters in eight innings of work, falling four shy of the league record, set by Modesto (22) in 1952. Combined with three hit batters, Visalia allowed 21 Quakes’ hitters to reach, helping them score 21 runs, despite just 10 hits.

Rancho pitching was solid out of the pen, as Christian Suarez (1-0) earned his first win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

For Cartaya, the pair of round-trippers give him four on the year, while De Jesus now has three.

The Quakes (12-8) will look to make it five of six over Visalia on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm, sending Orlando Ortiz (0-0) to the mound in his first start of the year. The Rawhide will counter with Liam Norris (0-0).

Sunday will feature the first U.S. Bank Youth Clinic since 2019, as with the purchase of a ticket to the game, kids will get free instruction from Quakes’ players and coaches starting at 10:00am. Game time is 2:00pm and tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
