Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Clinching a series victory, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes toppled the Lake Elsinore Storm on Wednesday night by a final tally of 7-2.
Two separate offensive explosions paced the Quakes (79-54, 38-27) in the middle game of the set, as they continued to handle the Storm (70-63, 35-30) in 2019.
In the bottom-of-the-second inning, Rancho rattled off a four-spot to give themselves a comfortable 4-0 lead. That frame was headlined by a bases-clearing, two-out double from Jeren Kendall. Kendall finished 3-for-4 on the night, just a home run short of the cycle.
After Lake Elsinore cut the lead in half to 4-2 in the top of the third, the Quakes waited until the home half of the seventh to wake back up. Devin Mann's (19th) two-run blast to left highlighted a three-tally inning, giving Rancho a 7-2 heading into the eighth.
Lost in the shuffle a bit was the Quakes' starter, Jose Martinez. Martinez (2-0) earned his second victory in the Cal League, hurling six innings of two-run baseball.
Max Gamboa, with two scoreless frames, and Austin Drury, with a clean top of the ninth, combined for yet another solid outing from the Rancho bullpen.
Osvaldo Hernandez (0-2) shouldered the loss in his 2.2 innings of work, giving up four earned.
In the final regular season matchup between these South Division rivals, Rancho will give the ball to LHP Julio Urías (0-0) for the start, as Lake Elsinore looks to RHP Garrett Richards (0-0).
The Quakes are amidst the final home stand of the year, and this is the final chance to see Rancho play in the regular season... until the PLAYOFFS.
