Rancho Cucamonga, CA - For the second consecutive night, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were handled by the Inland Empire 66ers, losing by a final tally of 5-1 on Saturday night.
Following Thursday's night win, completing a sweep over the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Quakes (80-56, 39-29) have experienced a bit of a letdown against the Cal League's bottom-feeding team in the Sixers (56-81, 30-38).
Inland Empire got off to a jump start thanks to a Leonardo Rivas (6th) two-out, solo homer in the top of the first. After Rancho knotted up the score at 1-1, via a Brandon Montgomery RBI groundout in the bottom of the third, things went haywire the very next half-frame.
Devin Davis continued his red-hot series, lacing a bases-clearing double, making it 4-1 in favor of the Sixers. The very next hitter in Alexis Olmeda would make it 5-1, due to an RBI double of his own.
However, Inland Empire's starter, Travis Herrin (5-6), was the headlining performance in game two of the series. The right-hander earned the win, spinning seven innings of one-run (unearned) baseball, with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Austin Hamilton (6-5) suffered his second-straight defeat versus the Sixers, giving up five earned runs in 3.2 innings.
In game three of the series, RHP Wills Montgomerie (9-2) is set to make the start for Rancho. On the other side for Inland Empire, RHP Kyle Tyler (3-0) will take the ball.
The Quakes will play back-to-back 2:05pm games on Sunday and Monday, respectively, to wrap up the regular season. On Friday, September 5th, Rancho will be back at LoanMart Field for Game 3 in the Best-of-5 South Division Finals, against Lake Elsinore. 1,500 fans will take home a Clayton Kershaw Bobblehead, thanks to US Bank.
