Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Rancho offense smashed three more home runs on Wednesday night and pounded out 14 hits in a 16-3 drubbing of the Lake Elsinore Storm.
Eddys Leonard, Alex De Jesus and Jake Vogel all went deep, giving Rancho seven long-balls over their first two games of the Lake Elsinore series at LoanMart Field.
The bats were going early on Tuesday, as they scored in each of their first four innings. Diego Cartaya and Jobit Vivas had run-scoring hits in the first, making it 2-0. Sauryn Lao drove in a run with an RBI double in the second, before the Quakes exploded for three in the third. Vivas, De Jesus and Jonny DeLuca all had RBIs in the third, giving Rancho a commanding 6-0 lead against Storm starter Nick Thwaits (0-6).
Leonard popped his second homer in as many nights with a man on in the fourth, his ninth of the year to make it an 8-1 game.
On the other side, Jose Hernandez opened the game with a scoreless inning, before turning it over to Carlos Duran (2-2), who allowed just one run over three innings, while striking out seven hitters.
Both De Jesus (8th) and Vogel (1st) went deep in the seventh, part of a five-run frame to put the game away.
The Quakes (28-27) look for a fourth straight win on Thursday, as they roll with Gavin Stone (0-1) in game three, as he’ll be opposed by Storm right-hander Dwayne Matos (0-1). Game time from LoanMart Field is 6:30pm.
