Rancho with Incredible Rally to Win 14-13

Modesto, CA – The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes pulled off their biggest comeback of the season on Friday night, scoring a 14-13 win over the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field.

Five in the seventh and four in the ninth shocked the fans in Modesto, as the Quakes scored the game’s final nine runs to win for the second time in four games.

Imanol Vargas capped the four-run ninth inning, slapping a two-run double down the right-field line off Modesto reliever Matthew Wilrodt (1-3).

In the last of the ninth, Aldry Acosta (4-3) worked an unusually quiet inning considering the rest of the game, as he tossed his second straight 1-2-3 inning to notch the win.

Rancho trailed 8-2 before picking up three in the fifth to pull to within three runs at 8-5.

Modesto appeared to put it away though, scoring five in the last of the sixth to take a commanding 13-5 advantage.

It wasn’t enough though, as Rancho scored five times in the seventh to make a game of it.

Eddys Leonard had four RBIs, while Alex DeJesus continued his torrid July with two more hits and two more walks, driving in two runs along the way.

Rancho (42-33) will look for a second straight win on Saturday at 6:05pm, sending Gavin Stone (0-1) to the mound, while Modesto will counter with Sam Carlson (3-2).

After this current 12-game road trip, the Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 3rd, taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm. Tuesday the 4th will be a Temblores Tuesday, presented by the Art Laboe Show Live. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com.
