Rancho Cuamonga, CA - In the final regular season matchup between the two clubs, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes snatched a victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm by a final tally of 7-5.
Scoring a handful of early runs, combined with strong late-inning pitching from Gerardo Carrillo, the Quakes (80-54, 39-27) paced themselves to a sweep and a second-half title.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first and failing to score in the home half, Rancho exploded for seven tallies in the next two frames to hold on for good. A four-run bottom of the second featured a Jeren Kendall two-RBI single, while a three-run bottom of the third was headlined by Decon Liput's two-run double.
Kendall's pair of runs-driven-in gives him 24 RBI in 23 games played in the month of August.
Dodgers' southpaw, Julio Urías, coming back from suspension, lasted two-plus innings on the evening with two earned runs on three hits.
Padres' rehabber, Garrett Richards (0-1), went just 1.2 innings, surrendering four earned runs and four walks in a losing effort.
Carrillo (5-9) dazzled yet again, earning the win by hurling scoreless baseball from the fifth to the eighth inning. The right-hander did not issue a walk and he struck out six batters.
As Rancho begins their final series of the regular season, a four-game battle with Inland Empire, the Quakes send LHP John Rooney (5-1) to the mound and the 66ers will give the nod to RHP Kyle Bradish (5-7).
