Visalia, CA - Rancho Cucamonga's four-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday evening, as the Visalia Rawhide shut down the Rancho offense in an 8-5 win over the Quakes at Recreation Park.
Held to just two hits for the second time on the road trip, the Rancho offense went down on strikes a season-worst 17 times, as they were unable to take advantage of four Visalia errors.
Down 1-0, Rancho took a 3-1 lead in the third, in part to Devin Mann's first homer as a Quake, a two-run shot down the left-field line.
That would prove to be Rancho's only hit through the first eight innings.
Rancho lefty Leo Crawford (0-2) allowed a total of six runs over three innings, with Visalia scoring two in the third to even the game and three more as part of a five-run fourth to ultimately chase the Quakes' starter.
Jeren Kendall scored an unearned run in the fifth to make it 8-4 and Brandon Montgomery recorded his first hit of the year in the ninth, smacking an RBI double to score Starling Heredia, making the score 8-5. That was as close as the Quakes would get though, as Visalia reliever Matt Brill left the tying run in the on-deck circle to end the game.
On Wednesday morning, the Quakes (4-2) and Rawhide (4-2) face off in the rubber-game of the three-game set, as Rancho will send Edwin Uceta (0-0) to the mound against Visalia hurler Matt Mercer. Game time on Wednesday will be 11:00am.
After the finale in Visalia, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for the home opener on Thursday, April 11th, as they host the Lancaster JetHawks for a four-game home stand. Opening Night will feature Post-Game Fireworks and Magnet Schedules given away thanks to Allstar Kia in San Bernardino. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
