Adonis Medina Lands Final Home Game as Debut

Adonis Medina, 23, has been in the Philadelphia Phillies organization since 2016. Last season he made it as far as the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils, this summer Medina reached the pinnacle.

The right-handed started pitched four innings for Philadelphia, giving up three hits and two runs. Medina struck out four. The Phillies lost to the Blue Jays, 6-3. They currently sit at 27 and 26 on the season, battling for a playoff spot as things wind down.

In 2019, Medina finished with a 4.94 ERA in 105.2 innings pitched. Almost always a starter, he struck out 82 batters while only walking 41. He was chosen as an All-Star that season. Medina was still considered one of the Phillies top pitching prospects even after leveling off down the stretch. Manager Joe Girardi speaks positively about his ability to handle a large workload and his versatility in off-speed pitches. Medina was optioned back to Lehigh Valley after the game. However, with another double-header on the schedule Tuesday, it is possible that we will see him return to the Majors.

Philadelphia has finalized their 40-man postseason pool. This will include a couple of injured players that hope to make their return. Many minor leaguers, such as Medina, who were called up as reinforcements have secured a spot in this pool. Alec Bohm, Connor Brogdon, Spencer Howard, JoJo Romero, Rafael Marchan, Garrett Cleavinger, and Mickey Moniak will be joining him. Nick Maton is also listed but has not yet made his big league debut. The playoff roster itself will have 28 players.
