(Hartford, CT) - The Fightin Phils and Yard Goats concluded their three game series at Dunkin Donuts Park Sunday afternoon. Elniery García took the mound for Reading hoping to avoid the sweep against Hartford and battled through five scoreless innings.
The Fightin Phils set the tone early against Hartford's Konner Wade, after leaving runners on second and third in the first, the Fightins would strike in the second. A bases loaded walk to Zach Coppola, two run single by Jiandido Tromp and RBI ground out by Damek Tomscha put Reading up 4-0 and in the drivers seat.
Not satisfied with the four run lead, Deivi Grullon followed a Drew Stankiewicz double with a long home run to left field to put the Fightin Phils up 6-0 in the 5th.  Elniery Garcia battled through five scoreless innings, striking out a season high five and only allowing three hits.
Leading 6-0, Tom Windle came on and pitched a scoreless 6th inning getting through the heart of the Hartford order only allowing a one hit. Windle held the Yard Goats scoreless through the eighth, striking out three and allowing just one hit in three innings of relief before turning things over to Austin Davis.  Davis tossed a scoreless bottom of the 9th securing the 6-0 win for the Fightin Phils
The Fightin Phils start a three game series against the Bowie Baysox on Monday at 7:05.
