Morales Garners Pitcher of the Week in Final Start

The Reading Fightin Phils are excited to announce that the Phillies #5 prospect Francisco Morales has been named the Double-A Northeast Pitcher of the Week. Morales, 21, threw five innings of just one-hit ball. He gave up no earned runs to earn his fourth win of the season.

Reading went on to take game one of the series at the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 2-1. Morales walked just one batter and struck out a season-high nine. The righty threw 62 pitches, 43 of them strikes, while facing eighteen batters. Morales also induced four groundouts and two flyouts. He did not hit any batters, throw any wild pitches, or allow any runners to steal.

It is his second time winning the award as he earned the honors for the week of July 11th. That outing he threw six innings of one hit ball. Morales allowed no runs, walking four and striking out five.

Philadelphia's prospect finishes the season 4-13 with a 6.94 ERA in 22 appearances, 20 of them starts. Morales threw 83.0 innings of work, recording 110 strikeouts. This puts him second in the Double-A Northeast for highest strikeout count.

The youngster out of Venezuela also threw 6.0 innings of no hit ball to start the beginning of a combined no-hitter. Morales, Zach Warren, Kyle Dohy, and Brian Marconi threw a no-hitter at the Erie SeaWolves on July 3.
