Jhailyn Ortiz was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for his performance against the Bowie Baysox from May 10-15, 2022. Ortiz is the first Fightins player to receive the award this season. He found his rhythm this week playing in front of the home crowd at America’s Classic Ballpark. In six games against the Orioles affiliate, Ortiz held a .417 batting average with 10 hits. He notched two doubles and three homers, to total eight long balls on the season. One of his home runs was a grand slam, the team’s first of the year. Ortiz also knocked 10 runs in to help the R-Phils take five of six games from Bowie. His OPS for the week was a 1.356 which combines a player’s On Base Percentage plus Slugging.

He also had a two-run single to walk it off for the R-Phils on Thursday night. This was the first walk-off of his career and the first of three consecutive for the Fightins.

Ortiz ranks high in many Eastern League categories, including second in extra base hits (16), third in home runs (8), and fourth in both RBIs (21) and runs scored (23).

Typically in right field, although sometimes he can be found in center, Ortiz demonstrates good range and an impressive arm. He threw out two runners this week, one at third and one at home all the way from right.

In total this season, Ortiz holds a .263 average with a team-high 31 hits and 21 RBIs. In addition, he leads the team in doubles (8) and homers (8).

Jhailyn received this top honor once last season with the Jersey Shore Blue Claws (A+). He was also named a MiLB.com 2021 Organizational All-Star.

The Phillies #12 prospect has really showcased his power and his ability to drive the ball anywhere he wants to. The 23-year-old hails from Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. He was initially signed by Philadelphia as a minor league free agent on July 10, 2015.
