The Reading Fightin Phils fell to the Bowie Baysox 9-0 at Prince George’s Stadium. The team used five pitchers throughout the night, totaling seven strikeouts. Offensively, the R-Phils recorded four hits and five walks but were shut down from scoring any runs.

The Fightins threatened in the top of the third inning. Madison Stokes started things off with a walk and Luke Miller pushed him to second on a single. However, the next three batters were retired. Arquimedes Gamboa, Daniel Brito and Madison Stokes also contributed with hits.

Colton Eastman (L, 0-1) was handed the ball for the start, going three strong. He notched two outs in bottom of the fourth and finished with a line of two hits and four runs, two of them earned. Andrew Brown came in for relief allowing four hits and four earned runs. Zach Warren took the mound striking out three but letting one cross the plate. Mark Potter and Jakob Hernandez both pitched an impressive inning each, not letting up a hit and striking out one.

Bowie’s bats came alive in the fourth and fifth innings. While they did score on a few wild pitches and a Fightins error, the Baysox had the power. Top prospect Adley Rutschman, Jaylen Ferguson, and Chris Hudgins all hit home runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Baysox starter Kyle Bradish (W, 1-0) pitched five innings of three hit ball striking out nine batters. The relievers also shut down the R-Phils and didn’t allow any runs across the board.
