Viza's Superb Performance Leads Fightins to Victory

(Richmond, VA) - Tyler Viza (3-4) tied a career-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings pitched as he led the Reading Fightin Phils (63-68) to a 7-0 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (61-71) at The Diamond on Monday night.
After a one hour and fourteen minute rain delay, the Fightin Phils and Flying Squirrels finally got underway at The Diamond.   Reading would score four runs in the top of the second inning take a 4-0 lead. C.J. Hinojosa committed two errors on one play that allowed Jiandido Tromp and Malquin Canelo to score. Austin Listi followed with a two-run single off Flying Squirrels starting pitcher Taylor Hill (0-8) that scored Viza and Drew Stankiewicz for the other two runs in the inning.
Reading extended their lead to 6-0 against the Flying Squirrels in the top of the seventh inning. Jose Pujols and Austin Bossart both walked with the bases loaded against 'Squirrels relief pitcher Sam Wolff to score Stankiewicz and Listi.
Darick Hall homered off 'Squirrels pitcher Carlos Diaz in the top of the ninth inning to give the Fightin Phils a 7-0 lead. It was his fourteenth home run here with the Fightins. Kyle Dohy and Luke Leftwich both pitched scoreless innings in relief for Reading.
