Escobar named Batavia Downs POTW

Rochester Red Wings infielder Eduardo Escobar has been named the Batavia Downs Racetrack and Gaming Player of the Week for the period of August 26-September 2, and. the International League's Player of the Week for the same period. Over the final eight games of the season, Escobar hit .400 (12-30) with eight extra-base hits - including three home runs - and nine RBI.

Escobar led the IL with 12 hits, three home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, and a .867 slugging percentage over the season's final week. His best game came on the season's final day, with the Red Wings needing a victory to claim the IL's Wild Card. Escobar pounded out four extra base hits - including three doubles and a home run - and drove in a career-best five runs to lead Rochester to a 13-3 win over Scranton/WB, giving the team its first playoff appearance since 2006.

Rochester brought home five IL Player of the Week awards this season, as Escobar joins previous winners Chris Colabello (April 4-7, May 13-19), Vance Worley (June 17-23), and Pat Dean (August 5-11).

Batavia Downs Racetrack and Batavia Downs Gaming present the award each week during the regular season. Batavia Downs Gaming is a Video Gaming Center owned and operated by Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation in association with the New York Lottery. Western OTB is a public benefit corporation in the State of New York.

Batavia Downs Racetrack, America's oldest lighted harness track, features live races beginning July 22 until December 7. There will be Sunday afternoon racing at Batavia Downs in August with a 1:15 p.m. post. Matinees are also scheduled for Labor Day, September 2 and Columbus Day, October 14 also with 1:15 p.m. starts.
