New RF video board to be installed

Full color LED display a big league upgrade
March 25, 2014

The Rochester Red Wings have announced plans to install a brand-new, full color, LED video board in right field replacing the board that has been there since Frontier Field's inaugural season in 1997. The new video board, designed and manufactured by Daktronics, will be up and running for Opening Day at Frontier Field on April 5.

"We try to bring something new to the experience at Frontier Field each year, or as often and as economically feasible for us," said Red Wings President/CEO/COO Naomi Silver. "This year we decided to make a substantial investment by bringing this state-of-the-art, brilliant new board which we know our fans have been clamoring for. It is the type of enhancement that everyone will enjoy."

The new LED video display will measure approximately 24 feet high by 33 feet wide and will feature a 15 HD pixel layout. It is capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays. It can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and motion advertisements.

Frontier Field's new display will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements guaranteeing every fan a chance to stay updated with game information.

"For the past seventeen years, residents and visitors alike have enjoyed family-friendly games and entertainment at Frontier Field and the stadium's state-of-the-art new video board will certainly add to what's already a great fan experience," said County Executive Maggie Brooks. "I thank the Rochester Red Wings for being such strong community partners when it comes to promoting our area's love of sport and contributing to Monroe County's world-class quality of life."

"The addition of our new Daktronics, LED video board will undoubtedly enhance the fans experience at Frontier Field," said Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason. "We look forward to making our games even more exciting, giving our fans even more reason to cheer and engaging our fans more than ever while they are at the ballpark."

Other capital improvements made to Frontier Field by the Red Wings to enhance the fan's experience over the years include, a brand-new left field video board in 2006, the 490 marquee which stands in front of the VIP parking lot, the pavilion "Nest" picnic area in right field, suite level renovations, the line score board and speed pitch board over the bullpen in left and the on-field video displays up the first and third base lines.

Tear down of the old board and construction of the new one is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 26.
