Xavier Scruggs Drives In Season-High Four Runs
May 17, 2014

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Staring pitcher Angel Castro hurled seven dominant innings to fuel the Memphis redbirds to a 6-2 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

Castro (5-2) scattered six hits for one run while walking none and striking out four for his third win in a row. The right-hander has now allowed just five earned runs over his last five starts (31.0 IP) to lower his ERA to 3.27.

Outfielder Shane Robinson went 3-for-3 with a walk and run scored while extending his hitting streak to five games. First baseman Xavier Scruggs added a two-run double and two-run triple for a season-high four RBIs.

David Aardsma stranded two of three inherited runners while pitching a scoreless ninth to convert his fourth save of the season.

After Scott Moore worked his PCL-leading ninth hit-by-pitch and Pete Kozma walked, consecutive one-out doubles from Scruggs and Ed Easley (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) gave Memphis a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Both two-baggers landed in the same spot in left center.

Omaha plated its first run in the fourth on a bloop RBI single by Paulo Orlando. With Christian Colon on third and two outs, Orlando hit a ball just beyond the reach of the diving Stephen Piscotty in left.

Memphis added an unearned run on an attempted double play in the sixth to go up 4-1. Moore came around to score from second as Omaha second baseman Jason Donald threw wide of first to end the inning on the twin-killing.

Scruggs concluded his evening with a two-run triple in the eighth inning, a ball that landed inches from being a home run. Robinson and Piscotty both scored on Scruggs' three-bagger.

In a rehab start for Omaha, Kansas City Royals left-hander Francisley Bueno gave up three runs on three hits in two innings for the loss (0-1).

Memphis and Omaha conclude their four-gamer series with a 1:35 pm CT Sunday matinee at AutoZone Park. Cardinals' prospect and left-hander Tim Cooney (4-2, 2.95) will toe the rubber against former Redbirds P.J. Walters (0-4, 9.10).
