MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that left-handed starting pitcher Jaime Garcia and right-handed reliever Jason Motte will join the Memphis Redbirds on injury rehabilitation assignments this homestand at AutoZone Park.

Garcia is currently on the Cardinals' 15-day disabled list recovering from a left shoulder injury. He is expected to start for the Redbirds at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night at AutoZone Park against the Round Rock Express (Triple-A Rangers).

The 27-year-old Garcia tossed 28 pitches (18 for strikes) in his first rehab start for Double-A Springfield on May 4 at Hammons Field. He struck out two and allowed three hits for two runs, including a two-run home run in two innings against the Tulsa Drillers. Garcia exited the game after getting hit in his left elbow during his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning.

Garcia is a combined 6-5 with a 4.27 ERA (46er/97.0ip) and 89 strikeouts in 18 games (17 starts) for Memphis from 2008-09, '12. His most recent appearance with the Redbirds was a rehab outing in August 2012.

Motte is currently on the Cardinals' 15-day disabled list recovering from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow performed in May 2013.

The 31-year-old Memphis resident made four scoreless outings for Double-A Springfield during his first rehab stint this season. The right-hander retired 11 of his 13 batters faced and struck out three over his 3 2/3 innings pitched, while hurling 31 of his 45 pitches for strikes. He most recently pitched for Springfield on back-to-back days on May 9-10 at Northwest Arkansas.

Motte spent two stints with the Redbirds during his minor league career, first in 2004 as a catcher. After transitioning to a pitching role, he was recognized as a 2008 Baseball America Triple-A All-Star after leading the Pacific Coast League with a Redbirds franchise-record 63 games. Motte's most recent appearance with the Redbirds was a two-game rehab outing in 2010.

Potential media opportunities with Garcia and Motte have yet to be determined and will be released at a later time.
