Tommy Pham Named PCL Player Of The Week

Outfielder Collects Fourteen Hits, Bats .500 To Claim Weekly Honor
August 11, 2014

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis Redbirds outfielder Tommy Pham has been named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for the August 4-10 period.

Pham hit a league-best .500 (14-for-28) with two home runs, seven RBIs, 10 runs scored and four stolen bases in seven games during the week. In addition, he walked five times and had a .750 slugging percentage with a 1.309 OPS hitting out of the leadoff spot. The outfielder collected a hit in every contest except one, recording four multi-hit games in the process.

The nine-year veteran became the first player in Memphis Redbirds history to compile four hits, four RBIs and score four runs in a game. He also broke into the franchise record books by becoming the first player to notch back-to-back four-hit games on August 9 and 10 against New Orleans. He was retired only twice in his 11 plate appearances over the two contests, setting a new career-high in runs scored in a game and tying his past highs in hits and runs batted in.

Overall on the season, Pham is batting .345 (91-for-264) in 84 games with nine home runs, 36 RBIs, 46 runs scored and a team-best four triples and 13 stolen bases. Since May 3, he has a .377 (86-for-228) batting average, highest in the PCL over that span.

He is the third Redbirds player to win a weekly award this season, joining pitchers Tim Cooney (May 26 - June 1) and Tyler Lyons (July 28 - August 3), and first Redbirds position player to win the Player of the Week honor since Andrew Brown took home the weekly prize back on May 23-29, 2011.

Lyons and Pham are the third pair to win back-to-back weekly honors in Redbirds history, joining outfielder Dee Haynes and pitcher Nerio Rodriguez (May 5-18, 2003) and pitchers John Wasdin and utilityman Josh Phelps (July 21-August 3, 2008).

It is the second time in Pham's career to win a weekly award, earning the Midwest League Player of the Week on May 19, 2008 with Quad Cities.

Pham entered the season as St. Louis' No. 23 top prospect and "Best Defensive Outfielder" as rated by Baseball America. He was drafted in the 16th round of the June, 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Durango (Nev.) High School.
