Leading up to the 2021 season, RenoAces.com will be taking a look at some of the faces fans may see at Greater Nevada Field this year! Today we take a look at Sam Moll.

Sam Moll comes to Reno after an electric 2019 season in the San Francisco Giants organization. The third-round pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2013 is coming off a 2019 season where he appeared in 41 games between the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats.

With Richmond, Moll appeared in 35 games out of the bullpen and put up a 2.58 ERA – the lowest of his Double-A career since the lefthander posted a 1.23 ERA in 2015, in 14.2 innings. 2019’s sub-three ERA came in 38.1 innings pitched at that level, and Moll threw in 42 strikeouts, two saves and a win to balance out the stat sheet.

2019 also featured a half dozen appearances with the River Cats, where he posted an even lower ERA of 1.69 in 10.2 innings pitched. Moll’s only decision on the season was a win, and the University of Memphis product put up a WHIP of just 1.31 behind 12 strikeouts.

Moll has big-league experience too, appearing in 11 games for the Oakland A’s in 2017. In just 6.2 innings of work, Moll struck out seven and walked just three.

In Moll, the Aces bring on an experienced lefty with seven years of professional experience, and a 3.31 ERA to show for it. Aces fans can look forward to a reliever that doesn’t give up many long balls, and gets plenty of strikeouts in 2021 at Greater Nevada Field.
