Easley Tabbed D-backs Organizational Player of the Month

September 4, 2013

For Immediate Release
Sept. 4, 2013

RENO, Nev.-Reno Aces catcher Ed Easley has been named the Arizona D-backs Minor League Co-Player of the Month for August.

The 27-year-old Easley hit safely in 17 of 23 games with a .402 average (33-for-82), 2 home runs, 15 RBI, 14 runs scored and 13 multi-hit affairs in August for the Aces. His batting average led all Triple-A players and tied for second among all Minor Leaguers in August.

Overall, Easley batted .334 (98-for-293) on the season, falling 96 at bats short for qualifying for the Pacific Coast League batting title. His 98 hits were the most in a single season for him since 2008 with Class-A Advanced Visalia, when he racked up 112. Easley's 49 RBI for Reno was also his second-highest total, behind the 53 he had in that 2008 season.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., he graduated from Mississippi State University and was the recipient of the 2007 Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher. Easley was drafted by the D-backs in the supplemental first round of the 2007 First-Year Player draft.

Visalia infielder Evan Marzilli was named co-Player of the Month with Easley, and RHP Archie Bradley earned the Pitcher of the Month nod.

Earlier this season, Aces shortstop Chris Owings became the first player in D-backs organizational history to be named Player of the Month in three consecutive months (April, May, June).
