When the Arizona Diamondbacks Summer Camp opened on Friday, July 3, there had been months of preparation going on behind-the-scenes.

"Every player was checked in to throughout the last three months," noted Aces manager Chris Cron when he spoke to the media on Friday. "We were just making sure they were healthy and asked them about their baseball activities...Answers were all over the board. Some were hitting off a tee in their garage, others who could take live batting practice - it was all over the map."

Now stationed in Scottsdale at the Dbacks Spring Training Facility, Salt River Fields, Cron is excited to be back working with players on-field.

"I have eight position players right now...we divide it up and work in different areas of Salt River Fields and we each work with a limited number of guys."

Even with limited interactions so far, there have been a few names circulating camp as ones who could impact the 2020 major league season later down the road.

"Dalton Varsho...his name is all over the place. He probably would have been in Reno this year. Catching, playing the outfield...he won the organizational player of the year (last year) in Double-A Jackson," says the Aces manager.

Varsho, a rising prospect in the system, hit over .300 last season for the Generals with 18 homeruns in 108 games.

Additionally, Cron mentioned Pavin Smith and Seth Beer as guys who have come into camp ready to perform.

Beer, 23, was acquired last year by the Diamondbacks in the Zack Greinke trade.

"He can swing the bat. He can be a guy that could fight for that DH sport at some point during this season as things keep going," Cron added.

Arizona will open the 2020 campaign on July 24 at the San Diego Padres.
