RENO - After a wave of over 3,000 fan submissions flooded in over the past four months, USL Reno 2017 has narrowed their "Name the Team" contest to an elite pool of six names for fans to help determine the official team name.
The original contest - which began in mid-September of 2015 - saw a high volume of names which ultimately led to the top six submissions: Reno FC, FC Reno, Reno Silver FC, Reno City FC, Reno United and Reno 1868.
Following the announcement of the USL franchise coming to Reno, soccer focus groups headed by Reno Aces and USL Reno President Eric Edelstein helped gather public feedback on potential team names, logos and colors.
"The amount of support and interest shown for Reno's new soccer franchise was not only evident on social media, but was obvious in the large turnouts we had during our soccer focus groups last fall," said Edelstein. "We will continue to involve our new fans and all of Northern Nevada to ensure we represent our community in building YOUR new team."
The final voting begins tomorrow, January 19 at 10:00 a.m., and will end on January 31 at 11:59 p.m. Fans can select their top name from the pool of six by clicking on the 'Name the Team' tab provided on www.uslreno2017.com, along with USL Reno's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
The official team name is set for release in mid-February, while the team logo, colors and coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
Fans who submitted the winning name during the original "Name the Team" contest will be entered into a grand prize drawing which includes: a pair of season tickets for the 2017 season and a customized jersey, in addition to being season ticket holder #0001, giving them the first pick at their seat location. Those who do not win the grand prize drawing will receive a pair of tickets to USL Reno's opening night.
Season ticket deposits of $25 per seat can be made now at www.uslreno2017.com or by calling (775) 334-7001. Single-game tickets will be available in winter of 2017.
