Funnville - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are excited to announce that Atlanta Hawks Forward Andrew White III will be joining the doubleheader festivities at The Diamond on Saturday, June 23. The Richmond-area native is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch between games of the Flying Squirrels doubleheader against the Bowie Baysox. White is also scheduled to sign autographs on the concourse during Saturday's second game. "We work hard at cross pollinating with other sports," said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd Parney Parnell. "Andrew White coming here and being saluted by Squirrels fans is another example of that!"
White will be bringing about 50 kids from the region as part of the Team Loaded Youth Basketball Camp this weekend at U-Turn Sports in Richmond. Saturday at The Diamond features two games for the price of one admission, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. The first pitch of game one is set for 5:05 p.m. Both games will be seven inning contests. About White
White made his NBA debut for the Atlanta Hawks on February 14, 2018 and averaged 13.9 minutes per game over 15 contests in his rookie campaign. The 25-year-old was born in Richmond and developed into a top basketball talent at the Miller School in Charlottesville. While at the Miller School, White was named the Virginia State Player of the Year in 2011-2012, after averaging 22.9 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Over the last six games of his high school career, White averaged 26.7 points per game. The run included 31 points in a 93-89 overtime win against Virginia Episcopal
White joined the Kansas Jayhawks in the Big 12 for the 2012-2013 season and appeared in 25 games as Freshman. The Jayhawks and legendary coach Bill Self went 31-6 in White's first season, advancing to the South Regional Semifinals before losing to No. 4 ranked Michigan. White returned to Kansas for his Sophomore season and was united with Petersburg product and current Sacramento Kings Guard Frank Mason. White appeared in 18 games his sophomore season and sat out the following year while he transferred to Nebraska.
After one season at Nebraska, White moved on as a graduate student transfer to Syracuse. He had his best collegiate season with the Orange, posting a career-high 18.5 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. He started all 34 Syracuse contests and scored double digits in 31. White went undrafted out of Syracuse and signed a deal with the Boston Celtics G-League affiliate, the Ma
Maine Red Claws. On January 15, 2018, On January 15, 2018, White signed a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks. Throughout the rest of the season, his playing time would be split between the Hawks and their NBA G League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks.
On February 14, 2018, White made his official NBA debut, scoring 15 points in only 17 minutes off the bench for the Hawk
