Squirreloween at The Diamond

Trick-or-Treating Returns for 3rd Annual Event
October 4, 2013

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels will host their 3rd Annual Squirreloween event at The Diamond from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th. The event will once again be highlighted by the opportunity for area youth to trick-or-treat in a safe and family-friendly environment. The event is FREE and open to the public. The 3rd annual event will also begin a partnership between the Flying Squirrels and The RVA Card. Squirreloween will include the first-ever RVA Card Halloween Carnival, which will benefit FeedRVA

"We believe that all kids should have the opportunity to enjoy trick-or-treating in a safe, free and family-friendly environment," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President Todd "Parney" Parnell. "We're ecstatic to be able to provide that experience once again while also continuing to grow the event through a partnership with an emerging community entity in the RVA Card."

In addition to free trick-or-treating through The Diamond suites, kids can decorate mini-pumpkins, take part in a costume contest and enjoy a variety of inflatable games. Local band The Hit List will be performing on the main stage throughout the course of the event.

Meanwhile, the RVA Card Halloween Carnival will enhance the event by spreading activities through The Diamond parking lots and onto the playing surface itself. Keeping with the local flavor, GrowRVA will be featuring healthy food options from a variety of local vendors, farmers and food trucks. All proceeds will benefit another great community cause in FeedRVA.

The Carnival will then sprawl into right field as event goers will have the chance to take part in a variety of family-friendly games and activities. Each activity will be hosted by a featured RVA business. Family-friendly activities include; scary yoga, Quidditch practice, family sack races, a Halloween music medley, assorted pumpkin games, an RVA ghost history, performances from McBeth Music and RVA Has Talent artists, and family Pictionary.

"Much like the Squirrels, the RVA Card's goal is to bring to all the great aspects of the RVA together to allow people to enjoy all that is truly unique and special about this area while also benefitting local causes," said RVA Card Project Innovation Partner Joe Domino. "The Squirrels are a bastion of community involvement, and The Diamond has really become a place where the community comes together. We couldn't think of a better place and better event to introduce ourselves."

For the first time, the event will feature a beer garden in The Diamond Tailgate Zone (1st Base Side), and there will be live music in that area throughout the event. Even the costume contest will get a face lift for the 3rd annual event. RVA Fashion Week models will join youngsters to strut their stuff and show off their costumes on the runway in right field.

"As with everything we are involved in, we want to continue to grow," added Parnell. "We have no doubt that Squirreloween will be bigger, better and more frightful than ever before."

The RVA Card offers discounts and special offers at more than a hundred businesses throughout the RVA. A percentage of the proceeds from purchases of the RVA Card benefit local causes and community projects. The RVA Card encourages shopping locally to enjoy the savings.

The RVA Card team is looking for more community involvement! Sponsorship opportunities for the Halloween Carnival are available from $25 - $250. Please E-mail [email protected] for more information. Additionally, vendor spaces on the right field warning track can be claimed in exchange for coordinating a kids/family-friendly activity & in-kind donations for the Grave Yard Toss-A-Ball in left field (min. value: $100)
