DAVENPORT, Iowa - In his second game as a River Bandit, Yordan Alvarez put his stamp on an 8-1 win for Quad Cities over the Burlington Bees on Tuesday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park. Alvarez went two-for-three with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Chuckie Robinson and Carmen Benedetti also drove in a pair of runs for the victorious Bandits.
Robinson tripled in Osvaldo Duarte to begin the scoring in the River Bandits (18-18) first inning. Ronnie Dawson walked to start the second and was driven in on an Alvarez double making it 2-0 Bandits. Later in the inning, Stephen Wrenn bashed a line drive off the left leg of Bees' starter Joe Gatto (2-3), forcing him to exit. A Duarte sacrifice fly and a Rodrigo Ayarza RBI single plated two more runs, moving the Quad Cities lead to 4-0. The lead was widened to 5-0 in the fifth on a Carmen Benedetti run-scoring double. The Bees' (11-23) lone run crossed in the sixth when Mario Sanjur laced a double to right center. Quad Cities put the game out of reach thanks to Robinson and Benedetti's second RBIs and Alvarez's home run.
Bandits starter Dustin Hunt tossed 3.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit, three walks and two hit batters. Kevin Hill mopped up 2.1 innings out of the pen, surrendering one run, three hits and striking out five. Lucas Williams (1-1) received the win after hurling two scoreless innings. Gatto (2-3) took the loss for the Bees.
