Today's Game: The Quad Cities River Bandits (affiliate of the Houston Astros) meet the Kane County Cougars (affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) in the third game of a four-game set at Modern Woodmen Park. This is the first of five series between the clubs in 2018. River Bandits-Cougars Season Series in 2018: Overall: River Bandits 1, Cougars 1. Modern Woodmen Park: River Bandits 1, Cougars 1.
Last Time Out: Kane County evened the series at one game with an impressive pitching performance in a 3-1 win on Tuesday night. The Cougars tallied first off of River Bandits starter J.B. Bukauskas in the third inning. The frame began with a walk and a bunt single that put two on with nobody out. Luis Silverio followed with an RBI single to right and then Yoel Yanqui grounded into a fielder's choice to plate another run. The Bandits cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth. Taking advantage of a walk and a throwing error, they scored a run on Corey Julks' double play bouncer to first. Jasrado Chisholm drove in the final run with a solo home run to right field off of Carlos Sanabria in the fifth. The River Bandits were held without a hit over the final six innings.
Rolling in Relief: Over the first four games of the season, River Bandits relievers have combined to work 19.0 innings and have allowed just one earned run. That lone run came on a solo home run by Jasrado Chisholm on Tuesday night off of Carlos Sanabria. Relievers have struck out 22 opposing hitters in those 19.0 innings. The pen has inherited seven runners and not allowed any of them to score.
Struggles at the Plate: The River Bandits were held to just two hits on Tuesday night, their fewest of the young season. The Bandits did not register a hit after the third inning on Tuesday.   In 2017, the squad was held to two hits or fewer on five occasions.
Steaks Have Been Rare: The River Bandits have scored 15 runs in the early going of the 2018 campaign, but only 8 of those runs have resulted in a player collecting an RBI. After going 0-9 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday, the Bandits are now hitting .139 in those situations. With runners on base in general, their average is only slightly better at .159. The team is 0-5 with no runs scored in bases loaded situations.
