Aces Top River Cats, 6-2

April 23, 2013

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.. - The River Cats loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but were unable to take the lead, ultimately falling to the visiting Reno Aces by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Raley Field.

River Cats starter Justin Thomas had another good outing, but suffered the tough-luck loss, moving his record to 0-2 on the season. In his seven innings of work, he allowed just six hits, three runs-two earned-and zero walks with six strikeouts.

The three Aces runs that scored after Thomas' watch all came in the eighth inning when Evan Scribner came on in relief. In his first appearance since being optioned after tossing three innings for the A's on April 19, Scribner gave up three earned on four hits, giving Reno a 6-2 lead it would not relinquish.

The River Cats mustered three hits-one each from Grant Green, Michael Choice and Tyler Ladendorf-while leaving 10 runners on base. Their two runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI-single from Ladendorf, and a bases-loaded walk from Jemile Weeks.

In his third rehab appearance with Sacramento, Adam Rosales went 0-for-4 with a walk as the designated hitter. Pedro Figueroa tossed a perfect ninth inning to improve his ERA to 8.31, and Aces lefty Tyler Skaggs (2-2) picked up his second win, allowing two earned runs on two hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

After an off day on Wednesday, the River Cats return to Raley Field at 7:05 p.m. on Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday to begin a four-game set against the Salt Lake Bees when Sacramento right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray (1-1, 3.94 ERA) takes on Salt Lake righty Orangel Arenas (1-2, 4.85 ERA).
