CHARLESTON, S.C. -MUSC Health has been named a 20/20 Partner of the Charleston RiverDogs, making the health system one of a group of partners committed to guiding the vision of RiverDogs baseball for the future and signaling that fun times at The Joe are also opportunities to create better health and wellness for the larger community.
"We are excited to be working with the RiverDogs because we see this partnership as a great way to blend health care, innovation and good, old-fashioned fun to facilitate healthier communities," said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., MUSC Health CEO and MUSC Vice President for Clinical Affairs.
The partnership between the RiverDogs and MUSC Health offers the health system numerous opportunities to advocate for better health, encourage diversity and inclusion, and find new ways to connect with patients and their families. RiverDogs players will have access to MUSC Health services and the advantages that come from being linked closely to an academic health science center, including primary medical coverage for the team provided by MUSC Health Sports Medicine.
"Our 20/20 Partners will engage with our fans in unprecedented ways. Our partnership with MUSC Health will focus on health and wellness connections to the fan experience, with an emphasis on our youngest fans," said Dave Echols, President and General Manager of the RiverDogs. "Many of our biggest fans are children, and they deserve the best care and best facility when they aren't well. From one Charleston institution to another, we want to play our part and are very excited about naming the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital as our primary beneficiary for fundraising efforts."
The partnership also includes opportunities for MUSC Health dieticians to consult on healthier food options at a concession stand, a private breast-feeding station for nursing mothers, and interaction with the RiverDogs Kids Club to promote healthy lifestyle habits. In addition, every Sunday home game will be an "MUSC Health Family Sunday," with select games featuring special opportunities for MUSC faculty, staff, students and employees.
