CHARLESTON, S.C. - After leading the RiverDogs with a power stroke from both sides of the plate, Charleston outfielder Isiah Gilliam has been announced as the winner of the "Top Dog" of the 2017 season as selected by the fans.
Gilliam, 21, joins other greats such as Josh Hamilton, B.J. Upton, Aubrey Huff, and Jorge Mateo who have all received the award in years past. In 2016, Charleston's Top Dog award went to first baseman Chris Gittens. The switch-hitting outfielder was honored after the RiverDogs' final home game after clinching their second straight postseason berth on Thursday, and his banner will be raised at The Joe alongside the previous winners.
The Atlanta, Ga. native was assigned to Charleston to start the 2017 season and earned many accolades that led him to this honor. After a struggling in the month of April, Gilliam garnered his first SAL Player of the Week for the period of May 8-14. He landed himself on an 11-game hitting streak through the seven-day course. In that short time frame, he hit .478 with two home runs, 6 RBI, and produced a 1.393 OPS in six games.

Gilliam received his second SAL Player of the Week honor for his success in the week of August 1. The Atlanta, G.A. native went 10-for-26 (.385) with two homers, four doubles, and 7 RBI while appearing in all seven games of the homestand. He had six extra-base knocks that produced a .769 slugging percentage over the course of that week.
With four games remaining in the regular season, Gilliam is leading the team in home runs (14), RBI (83), and doubles (33) while hitting .267 with a .454 slugging percentage. His 83 RBI are also second in the SAL behind Lakewood's Darick Hall (96). 52 of Gilliam's 83 RBI have also came in the second-half, leading the circuit over that span.
The playoff-bound RiverDogs hit the road for their final road trip of the regular season to Augusta starting on Thursday at 7:05. Charleston begins from Lake Olmstead Stadium sending right-hander Nick Nelson (3-11, 4.67) to face Augusta's righty Raffi Vizcaino (4-7, 5.40).
