The game, originally scheduled for Buffalo's War Memorial Stadium, is moved to Niagara Falls due to racial disturbances on Buffalo's east side. Staked to an early 7-0 lead, Palmer runs into trouble in the 3rd when he loads the bases. Red Wings manager Earl Weaver stomps out to the mound and orders Palmer to throw a strike to the next hitter, who he says is "nothing". The next hitter happens to be Bisons catcher Johnny Bench, who promptly deposits the ball over the fence. Palmer is livid at Weaver, igniting a feud between the two that continued for years after Weaver took over as manager of the parent Orioles in 1968. Rochester hangs on to win, 10-8.
