The Rochester Red Wings continue to slide down the standings, falling to the Worcester Red Sox,10-0, for the fifth-straight time in five games. Worcester cruised to a win on 14 hits and three homers.

In his second start against the Red Sox this year, RHP Logan Verrett gave up seven hits and five earned runs through 3 1/3 innings as the Wings fell behind early.

Worcester’s RHP Brian Keller had a solid night, scattering three hits and striking out eight batters while holding the Wings scoreless through five.

DH Connor Wong stole home in the first and hit an RBI single in the second, while Pedro Castellanos logged a two-run RBI double in the second to put the Sox up 4-0. Worcester added a pair of homers and an RBI double in a four run fifth inning to go up 9-0. One of the homers came against Wings RHP Matt Brill who hadn’t allowed a home run all season.

RHP Curtis Taylor and LHP Luis Avilan held the Red Sox scoreless until RHP Patrick Murphy gave up a solo homer in the top of the ninth to SS Jeter Downs. Rochester was outhit 14-5 in the loss.

The Wings swept the Red Sox in their previous matchup in Worcester but are now in danger of suffering the same fate on their home field. Saturday’s loss marks the seventh time this season that Rochester has been shutout, with the last coming on June 18 in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Wings were first in the International League on June 17 and have since gone 3-10, falling to sixth place in the division.

Rochester will send right-hander Anibal Sanchez to the mound in hopes of avoiding a sweep in Sunday’s 7:05 p.m. matchup at Frontier Field.
