BILOXI, Miss. (August 21, 2017) - After both teams went scoreless through the first 11 innings, the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, manufactured a run in the 12th to win 1-0 in the series opener against the Biloxi Shuckers Monday night at MGM Park.
Despite being out-hit 12-2, the BayBears plated the first run of the game in the top of the 12th against Jorge López (7-8). With runners on first and second with one out, Zach Gibbons reached base on a fielding error that allowed Zach Houchins to score.
Jesus Castillo , Abel De Los Santos , Greg Mahle , Damien Magnifico (1-0), and Adam Hofacket combined to throw the 11th shutout of the season for the BayBears. Magnifico pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three batters in the win, and Hofacket earned his sixth save.
Corbin Burnes pitched eight scoreless innings for Biloxi (63-60, 27-27), allowed just two hits, and tallied eight strikeouts. He pitched five hitless frames before giving up a leadoff single in the sixth. Nick Ramirez retired all nine batters he faced in three innings of relief.
