First Inning Dooms Hounds in Eighth Straight Loss

May 5, 2013

Frisco's Ryan Strausborger lifted a two-run home run over the left-center field wall in the top of the first inning Saturday night, capping a four-run rally. It was all the offense the RoughRiders would produce, but it would be enough, as Frisco defeated the RockHounds, 4-2.

After surrendering the four-run first inning, Carlos Hernandez then pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits over that stretch, and giving his club an opportunity to climb back.

The 'Hounds got on the board in the fifth on Chad Oberacker's two-run, two-out double.

The 'Hounds had opportunities, putting runners on base in every inning except the second (and out-hitting the RoughRiders, 10-8), but could not draw closer than the two-run final deficit, grounding into three double plays along the way.

Frisco's Kevin Pucetas went 6.0 innings for the win, with Tyler Tufts pitching the seventh and Wilmer Font going the last two innings for the save. Font (rated the Texas Rangers' # 22 prospect by Baseball America) walked three batters over his two innings, but slammed the door to earn his fourth save in as many opportunities.

The RockHounds have now dropped eight straight since leading the division at 13-8.

South Division

San Antonio defeated division-leading Corpus Christi, pushing the Hooks into a tie with Frisco at 17-12. The Missions (15-14) are now within two games of the co-leaders while the RockHounds remain four games back.
