Murphy Collects Win; Hounds Offense Ignited

June 22, 2013

Friday night was "Electronics Giveaway Night" at Citibank Ballpark (thanks to our friends at Best Buy!), but the RockHounds were pretty "electrifying" themselves.   All nine batters in the line-up scored a run, drove in a run, or both … and 'Hounds pitchers struck out 13 batters …as the RockHounds defeated San Antonio, 10-1, at Citibank Ballpark.

D'Arby Myers led a 16-hit attack, going 5-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in two more. Chad Oberacker's two-run double in the bottom of the fifth gave the 'Hounds a 5-0 lead, with "Obie" then stealing third base and scoring on Dusty Coleman's sharp single to right. Darwin Perez, who went 2-for-3 (plus a walk) drove in the last of the four runs in the fifth, pushing the lead to 7-0.

Conner Crumbliss got things started with a first-inning double (his third double in three at bats including Thursday night) and added a second two-bagger in the seventh inning, setting up the final RockHounds' run.

Sean Murphy dodged a two-out threat in the top of the first and was never in any serious trouble through six innings of work. His "quality start" included 6.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out eight San Antonio batters.

Kibbles & Bits

-     Anthony Aliotti was back in the line-up Friday after missing his first three games of the season with a knee bruise (sustained when he fouled a ball off the knee in Monday night's game at Frisco). "Ali" went 0-for-2, but drew three walks and scored two runs. He leads the league with a .361 average and is only four hits shy of 100 just four games into the second half.

-     For the second straight night, Jake Goebbert drove in the game's first run, pushing his league-leading total to 56 RBI … his 11th ribbie in the last six games.

-     David Freitas went 2-for-3 (plus a walk), and is now hitting over .400 (.406) in his last nine games.

-     The 'Hounds, who have outscored the Missions 14-3 in the first two games of the series, are 3-1 to start the second half.

-     The RockHounds are at home through Sunday, hosting the San Antonio Missions, at Citibank Ballpark. Saturday night's game will feature a post-game fireworks show (first pitch at seven o'clock) and Sunday's series and home stand finale' is also the final afternoon game until the season-ending Labor Day weekend (first pitch at 4:00).
