The Columbia Fireflies defeated the Rome Braves Wednesday at State Mutual Stadium by a final score of 3-2 before a crowd of 3,727.
The Fireflies got on the board in the first and second innings on a wild pitch to score a run and a bases loaded walk giving Columbia a 2-0 lead. Rome made it a 2-1 contest in the fifth on a Lucas Herbert RBI single. Columbia added an insurance run on a Michael Paez sacrifice fly in the seventh for the 3-1 score. Rome made it a 3-2 game in the eighth when Kurt Hoekstra crossed the plate on a wild pitch but the Fireflies held on for the 3-2 final.
Jordan Humphreys (3-0) gets the win for Columbia and Rome starter Ian Anderson
(1-1) it hit with the loss. Anderson went four innings allowing two runs on two hits while striking out seven. Joseph Zanghi earns his second save of the season.
