Offense Explosion, Braves Down Savannah

August 27, 2013

The Rome Braves banged out 13 hits and 14 runs to defeat the Savannah Sand Gnats 14-1 Tuesday night before 2,616 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

Rome wasted no time with the run parade scoring a run in the first inning as Kyle Wren tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Peraza. After Savannah scored in the top of the third to tie the game, Rome took the lead for good in the bottom half with two runs. Peraza picked up two more RBI on a two run double making it a 3-1 game. Rome never looked back and posted two big innings with five runs in the fifth and six in the seventh for the 14-1 win.

Several Braves had strong nights at the plate including Peraza with four RBI, Anselment and Meneses each with three runs batted in.

Rome stater Lucas Sims (11-4) gets the win going five innings, scattering four hits and allowing one run. Rome's bullpen of Zach Jadofsky and Matt Chaffee shut out Savannah the rest of the way allowing just one hit, walking two and striking out eight. Marco Camarena (5-3) absorbs the loss.
