Wet Win for Braves

August 18, 2013

On a soggy Sunday the Rome Braves defeated Charleston 5-4. The game was 1:05 late starting and also had a 46 minute rain delay that began in the eighth inning.

The Riverdogs began the scoring in the first inning on an RBI double by Greg Bird. The Braves bounced right back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two run blast by Edison Sanchez making score 2-1.

Charleston tied the game in the third on a RBI single by Ericson Leonora, but Rome quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jose Peraza reached on a fielding error and stole second. Sanchez and Carlos Franco both walked to load the bases. Chase Anselment then followed with a two RBI single giving Rome a 4-2 lead.

The Braves added their fifth run of the night on another RBI hit by Sanchez extending the lead to 5-2.

The Riverdogs plated two runs to come within a run but the Rome bullpen held on the rest of the way to preserve the 5-4 win.

Frank LaFreniere (6-12) picks up the victory for the Braves and Derek Varnadore (1-6) gets the loss for Charleston. Alex Wilson receives his seventh save on the year.
